5 Minute Craft: Golden Snitch Ornament

My niece loves Harry Potter. She needed a raffle donation for a friend, and since the auction was geared toward children, she decided to make a Harry Potter-inspired tree. We draped lights, got an owl (that Hedwig and the map are from when I visited Universal Studios), purchased some neckties in the school colors, and then decided to make ornaments, including these Harry Potter Mason Jar Lid Ornaments and Hogwarts Mason Jar Lid Ornaments.

The easiest ornaments to make are golden snitches. They are simply a small, unbreakable golden ornament and some golden feathers. So, we made six to be placed on the donation “Harry Potter” tree. It took about 5 minutes to make all six. This is a truly simple little craft.

5 Minute Craft: Golden Snitch Ornament Notes:

• All the materials necessary to make this easy little snowman spoon craft can be purchased at at JoAnn, Michaels, or Hobby Lobby

• Always cover your work surface against spills!

• Make certain your feathers match-up. By this I mean when you get the feathers out of the packet they will be in various sizes. It may not matter on a large craft, but when you are only using two feathers for wings it is important that one feather not be significantly larger than the other. Proportional it key.

4. Hot glue the middle of the spine (where the hot glue already is) to the back of your gold ball ornament with the spine side facing out. The reason we chose to make them face outward is because of how the golden snitch is represented in the books; it is gear-y. This makes it seem a bit more mechanical.

Wooden Spoon Craft: Gingerbread Spoon Puppet

These would be great for a kid’s puppet show (obviously) or to stick in floral foam as part of a centerpiece, or taped to a gift in lieu of ribbon (or in addition to ribbon). If you have indoor herbs and spices growing, these would also be adorable to plop in the pot for holiday decor!

You could also tie a candy around the stem, then cover with the ribbon, and use these as a cute little take-home Christmas brunch or dinner favor. Add a name to that candy and it becomes a name card for your holiday dinner table! Mix them up with these wood spoon crafts: Rudolph Spoon Puppet and/or Snowman Spoon Puppet!
