Learn how to make a lovely, invigorating, exfoliating, loofah soap easily with these step-by-step instructions. Your skin will feel smoother and fresher after you make, and use, your own loofah soap!

Homemade Exfoliating Loofah Soap

As you all know, I love homemade soaps! It is pretty easy to make your own homemade soap. You can get fancy with them, leave them plain and homespun, try making soaps that will help a particular skin ailment (dry skin, flaking skin, oily skin, etc). The possibilities are endless when you make and use your own soaps.

Many (most) people who make their own soap do so because they like to know exactly what is going in their soap, and onto their skin. The scent (or lack of) has a lot to do with it too. Unless you are making say, rose petal soap, the scents chosen should be more to please your sniffer or to create a certain mood than to follow any soap making recipe faithfully. Please note that if you are following a mood-setting recipe, you should use that combination.

Homemade Exfoliating Loofah Soap Notes:

• This is the soap mold used in this tutorial. You can use any soap mold where the loofah will sit flat, however.

• Be sure to use soap colorant (soap dye) and not food coloring when making soaps.

• You can add more or less soap dye/colorant to make the colors deeper or pale.

• You can use any colorant color of your choice.

• You can add more essential oils for a stronger scent.

Tip: I like to allow my soap to harden so I keep them unwrapped on a shelf in the linen closet. The closet smells pretty good too! The scent will dissipate this way, so add more essential oil if you plan to store your soap open on wire racks (shelving).

A few words about the essential oils being used:

Ylang Ylang Essential Oil – This oil is fantastic for your skin! With anti-aging and antiseptic properties, it is purported to reduce skin irritations, balances oily skin, and may help with acne and eczema.

Rose Essential Oil – This oil is known for its astringent and anti-inflammatory properties and may help reduce acne and redness in the skin. It is a feel-good moisturizer.

Tea Tree Essential Oil – This oil is used for its anti-microbial and astringent properties.

How to Make Soap on a Rope

These are a fun little soap to make that is just different enough to be an unusual gift. If you would like to make your own soap on a rope, read on for the tutorial instructions:

Notes:

• This is the Soap Mold used in this tutorial. It works very well but any soap mold tall enough to give room for the rope will work.

• I list paracord or cotton rope as the rope portion of this soap on a rope. paracord is the superior product as it does not fray as easily as cotton rope. The colors will not run into your lighter colored soaps.

• Be sure to use soap colorant (soap dye) and not food coloring when making soaps.

• You can add more or less soap dye to make the colors deeper or pale.

Soap on a Rope Instructions:

Step 1: Measure, cut, knot and trim your paracord. You should have about a ¼ inch of room from the bottom of the mold and the amount of cording you want to show form the top is totally up to you. For the mold used in this tutorial, paracord was cut into 8″ pieces which allowed room for the knot, room at the bottom and about 3” of cord showing from the top of the soap.
