Tips and tricks for making these Homemade Monster Donuts:
● Why do we put cocoa powder in the pan before baking? There are two reasons for this: the first is that it helps to remove the donuts from the pan. The second reason is that cooking spray can leave a yellowish film on baked goods. This is very noticeable on chocolate. The cocoa powder helps hide that.
● Make sure your donuts are completely cool before topping with the glaze. Otherwise, the glaze will melt right off.
● If you have difficulty spooning the batter properly into the pan, use a piping bag. It can really cut down on the mess.

You can color (click here to learn how to make colored sugar) the cinnamon sugar, or leave it off and use the glaze and decorating ideas. Or, use your favorite donuts recipes and then glaze and decorate.
● Use small candy corn pieces and give your monsters some candy corn teeth!
● Use candy melts in Halloween colors by drizzling melted chocolate over the glaze.
● If you have plain, store-bought donuts, you can spooky them up by making the glaze and decorating.
● This recipe uses purple, green, and orange food coloring. You can use different colors if that appeals. Make a black frosting glaze! Blue icing! Any fun colors will work.

● Store leftovers at room temperature for up to 3 days. The glaze and candy eyeballs will weep at this point.
● You can freeze the donuts but the glaze, eyeballs and sprinkles cannot be frozen. The color will weep onto the donuts the minute that it thaws. If you want you can make the donuts up to (and including) step 5. Cool the donuts and place in an airtight container and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw at room temperature when you are ready to serve and decorate with the glaze once thawed.
