Wooden Box Bird’s Nest Floral Arrangement

This is a sweet, easy little craft that takes about 15 minutes to make. This is a little birdy nesting in the cigar box. Since it is winter, we went with a winter theme. You could update to a fall or spring theme with a different bird (less sparkly), non-evergreen floral, or just evergreen floral that does not have any embellishments.

Notes:

• You can purchase any of the items for this craft that you may not have on hand at JoAnn, Michaels, or Hobby Lobby

• You can use an old cigar box, or purchase a new one at a craft store. The box also does not specifically have to be a “cigar box”, that is just what we had on hand so used it. You can use any small wooden box with a lid (or without a lid!) that you may have on hand.

• This cigar box is finished. You can also buy unfinished wooden boxes and paint it any color you like, or finish it with a polyurethane.

• This cigar box does not have brackets. The cigar box will stay open once the bird and floral have been inserted. Also note it will never close once the floral foam, bird, and floral have been inserted.

• This is an excellent craft for a small space, or as part of a centerpiece.

• This cigar box craft is versatile – it works in farmhouse décor, mission décor or rustic setting! Use this in a family room, kitchen, or enclosed porch – as I said, it fits in so many styles and places.

How to Make Floral Bookends

These super simple to make floral bookends come together quickly. The ones in this tutorial were made with “leftovers”. The glass containers were leftover from wedding decorations, the floral was sitting in a closet for years. This is a great way to use up the odds and ends you have from prior craft projects.

Of course, you can purchase new. My suggestion would be to look in a dollar store for a container. The ones in this tutorial would cost $15 to purchase… there is no need for that! Make sure your containers have some weight to them. If they do not, plan on filling in the spaces that are outside the floral foam with glass or rock weight.

Notes:

• If the inside is not metallic to match the glass exterior (and from a dollar store it probably will not be), you may want to spray paint it before you begin. You can find metalic spray paint at your local hardware store.

• When making these bookends you want the floral to look as similar as possible. It will probably not be exact, but go for “close”.

• You can use any color scheme you like! You can use any season of flowers you like! In this tutorial, geraniums were used. You could also use small hydrangea, Gerber daisies, small sunflowers, etc.

Easy Unicorn Wreath DIY

Easy Unicorn Wreath DIY. This simple to make sparkly unicorn rag wreath is an adorable and whimsical take on a unicorn wreath. Follow the step-by-step instructions of this detailed tutorial to make this fun homemade wreath. From the multicolored mane, sparkly white coat, and fanciful ears and cone, this delightful unicorn wreath is a playful take on the great mythical creature.

Easy Unicorn Wreath DIY

The unicorn is an ancient creature that has been described since ancient times as a beast with a single large, pointed, spiraling horn projecting from its forehead. During the middle ages, the unicorn was a symbol of grace and beauty. The one-horned creature was frequently depicted as looking like a horse (most of us are familiar with this depiction) or a goat-like creature with a single horn in the middle of the forehead.

There are many mythical and magical stories surrounding a unicorn. The horn could cure sickness, render water clean and drinkable (a big deal before the age of sewer treatment plants) and neutralize poison.

Unicorns are as popular today as they have been for eons. People love to hold unicorn parties, make unicorn decor, and hang unicorn art on their walls.

This easy to make unicorn wreath is basically a rag wreath. The embellishments are small but powerful. You can make this wreath quickly, depending on how fast you can tie a knot. This is a great watching-TV craft project.

Easy Unicorn Wreath DIY Notes:

• A standard white broadcloth was used for the white coat. One side had sparkles, the other side did not. When knotting, whatever side you want to show as needs to face one another (so if you want the sparkles to show outward, the sparkles need to face each other when you are knotting). You can do a random pattern of sparkly and white, or count the knots and make sure XX amount are sparkly and XX amount are white.

• The horn is hot glued. You could staple it in place, or you could use goop. The goop will take longer to dry.

• White and Pink felt were used to make the ears in this tutorial. Other color choices would be red, blue, green with the white.

• The mane tulle colors used were green, pink, purple, and blue.

• The horn color used was gold. Other choices you could use would be silver or hologram.

• The body color used was white. Other color choices to explore would be light yellow or blue.

As you can see, you can make many variations to this wreath. The color choices to be used are completely your own.
