Sorrento Sunrise Cocktail Recipe

Years ago Hubby and I took a trip to Italy. We spent a short while in Rome and a day at the Vatican and went on to Sorrento, Italy where we stayed for a few days. We LOVED it there! So much so that we hope to be able to go back and winter there at least once. It was absolutely beautiful.

Mt Vesuvius

That is a photo of Mt Vesuvius that I took from our Sorrento hotel rooftop restaurant one day.

The Amalfi Coast, Italy; The Amalfi Coast is a stretch of coastline on the southern coast of the Sorrentine Peninsula in the Province of Salerno in Southern Italy. Known for hosting the rich and famous, Amalfi is beautiful, fairly isolated, and crowded!

Sorrento Italy is where Limoncello originated. On our trip, we were given a family recipe for Limoncello that was very, very, VERY strong.

Tiered gardens were growing all over the Amalfi countries side. In Sorrento, the lemons and oranges would fall off the trees onto the ground they were so plentiful. Our hotel had lemon trees growing next to the sidewalk and parking lot!! We saw a lot of neighborhood lemon and orange trees in our neighborhood in Florida when we owned our condo, but nothing like what we saw in Sorrento and on the Amalfi coast!

So, why not combine some Italian with American and get a Sorrento Sunrise Cocktail recipe? I hope you enjoy!

Ann……I would love to hear more about the limoncello recipe, if you still have it. Our friends used bottles that they made as small wedding favors a few years back.
I always look forward to reading your blog!

    • Hi Linda,

I do not have the recipe. It was very strong, so I didn’t share. However, looking at my photos, it was a bottle of Everclear (you can see why it was strong!) 7 lemons + sugar (we used 1 cup). The lemon rinds were grated (don’t grate the pith), and then placed in an airtight container with the Everclear and sugar. It sat for 5 months. (I do not recall if I shook it, I do recall it was in a “dark” space.) After we got it out, we kept it in the freezer. It basically lasted f-o-r-e-v-e-r.

If I were to make it again? More sugar!!! And I am not sure about the Everclear.

I’ll wave next time I am in OP!!
